BALLET

This is a highly technical form of expression that stresses technique.   It is essential to learn correct body positioning, terminology, and proper use of muscles to prolong and accelerate dance abilities (kinesiology).  After sufficient study of ballet, a student may advance to pointe work.  Ballet is a requirement for the Performance Team.


JAZZ

Jazz has borrowed from all other dance forms to develop a technique all its own. European classical ballet, American modern dance, African rhythms, and other varied folk dance techniques are blended to create this unique style of dance.  Jazz has a wide variety of musical accompaniments from classic Broadway to the pop sounds of today.


TAP

This form of dance in which the feet create rhythmic sound is an excellent way to increase coordination of the mind and body and develop a sense of rhythm, timing and expression. 


CONTEMP

contemporary demonstrates balance, extension, and flexibility through movement that is a combination of ballet, jazz, and modern.  This dance form assists in expanding the dancer’s artistry and quality of movement through lyrics and emotion of the music.  Students should have a good understanding of ballet.


HIP-HOP

This style of dance developed from the urban musical cultures of New York and California.  What began as freestyle street.  Hip-hop is a broad genre that includes, popping, locking, funk, lyrical hip-hop, and breakdancing.
