Ballet This is a highly technical form of expression that stresses technique. The class includes traditional barre and center work designed to build a beautiful, graceful and healthy body with fine posture and poise. It is essential to learn correct body positioning, terminology, and proper use of muscles to prolong and accelerate dance abilities (kinesiology). After sufficient study of ballet, a student many advance to pointe work. Ballet is a requirement for the Performance Team.

 

Pointe (*12 and up)Pointe is ballet that requires the dancer to wear specially designed shoes called pointe shoes.Pointe is offered to students who have reach an advanced level of ballet. New students must be evaluated for correct level of placement (*offered at the discretion of the director only)

 

Tap This form of dance in which, the feet create rhythmic sound, is an excellent way to increase coordination of the mind and body and develop a sense of rhythm, timing and expression. Tap aids in other forms of dance by enhancing rhythmic dynamics, speed and agility of movement.

 

Jazz Jazz has borrowed from all other dance forms to develop a technique all it own. European classical ballet, American modern dance, African rhythms and other varied folk dance techniques are blended to create this unique style of dance. Jazz has a wide variety of musical accompaniment from classic Broadway to the pop sounds of today.

 

Lyrical/Contemporary Lyrical/contemporary demonstrates balance, extension, and flexibility through movement that is a combination of ballet, jazz and modern. This dance form assists in expanding the dancer’s artistry and quality of movement through lyrics and emotion of the music. Students should have a good understanding of ballet before introduction to lyrical/contemporary.

 

Hip Hop This style of dance developed from the urban musical cultures of New York and California. What began as freestyle street dancing in the 70’s has become one of the most popular forms of dance. Hip-hop is a broad genre that includes, popping, locking, funk, lyrical hip-hop and breakdancing.

Acrobatics Classes work towards improving flexibility, strength, and control. Dancers will learn how to properly execute Acro tricks similar to the mat component of gymnastics. Routines are comprised of a combination of Acro tricks and Jazz movements.
